Timun Mas

The story, line by line
- Dahulu kala, sepasang petani tua sangat ingin memiliki anak.
Long ago, an old farming couple deeply wanted a child. - Seorang raksasa memberi mereka biji mentimun ajaib.
A giant gave them a magical cucumber seed. - Dari mentimun itu lahir seorang gadis kecil yang cantik, dinamakan Timun Mas.
From the cucumber was born a beautiful little girl, named Timun Mas. - Raksasa berjanji akan kembali mengambil Timun Mas saat dia dewasa.
The giant promised to return and take Timun Mas when she was grown. - Bertahun-tahun kemudian, raksasa datang menagih janji.
Years later, the giant came to collect on his promise. - Ibu Timun Mas memberinya empat bungkusan ajaib dan menyuruhnya lari.
Timun Mas's mother gave her four magic pouches and told her to run. - Timun Mas melempar biji mentimun; kebun mentimun luas tumbuh di belakangnya.
Timun Mas threw cucumber seeds, and a vast cucumber field grew behind her. - Raksasa berhenti untuk makan, tetapi segera mengejarnya lagi.
The giant stopped to eat, but soon chased her again. - Timun Mas melempar jarum; tumbuhlah hutan bambu yang tajam.
Timun Mas threw needles, and a forest of sharp bamboo grew. - Raksasa menembus bambu itu dan semakin dekat.
The giant broke through the bamboo and drew closer. - Bungkusan ketiga berisi garam yang berubah menjadi lautan.
The third pouch contained salt, which turned into a sea. - Raksasa berhasil menyeberang, jadi Timun Mas melempar terasi terakhir.
The giant managed to cross, so Timun Mas threw the last pouch of shrimp paste. - Terasi itu menjadi lumpur mendidih. Raksasa jatuh dan tidak pernah terlihat lagi.
The shrimp paste became boiling mud. The giant fell in and was never seen again. - Timun Mas pulang dengan selamat, dan keluarganya hidup bahagia.
Timun Mas returned safely, and her family lived happily.
