Speak Indo teaches more than what a word means. It teaches when to use it, how it should sound, and how it fits into a real conversation. Carefully chosen vocabulary, practical grammar, real dialogues, and spaced repetition build speech you can use with confidence.
Why Indonesian, and why this way
Bahasa Indonesia is one of the most learner-friendly languages on earth: phonetic spelling, no verb conjugation, no grammatical gender, no tones. What it does have is a rich affix system, a sharp formal/informal register, and cultural subtleties that textbooks gloss over.
Most apps either oversimplify Indonesian or hand you a dictionary with no structure. Speak Indo takes the opposite approach: useful words, clear explanations, real stories, and usage notes that show you when to use kami instead of kita, or why tidak and bukan are never interchangeable.

- Recorded audio for every word, with 1,332 dictionary clips bundled with the app so pronunciation works offline. Say It gives pronunciation feedback using the iPhone's own speech recognition, on the device.
The philosophy
Languages aren't memorized, they're absorbed. That means two things: regular, small exposures beat occasional marathons, and seeing the same word in varied contexts beats repetition in isolation. Speak Indo's SRS scheduler does the first; the stories, lessons, and example sentences do the second.
Sign in once and your words, streak and schedule follow your account rather than the device. The only things stored are what's needed to do that: email, display name, and the JSON of your learning state. We use privacy-conscious product analytics to understand what works, but no ads, no social pixels, and no selling data. Full details in Privacy.
Who built this
Speak Indo is an independent, solo-built project created in Indonesia by a learner who moved here and got tired of language apps that felt like slot machines. The public author on lessons, stories and guides is Speak Indo, so corrections and updates stay accountable to one consistent editorial source. How the course content is made
Every dictionary entry is tied to a recorded pronunciation, an English meaning and an original bilingual example. Grammar pages use worked Indonesian sentences rather than abstract rules, and vocabulary pages link to the exact lines where a word appears in a Speak Indo story. Automated generation handles the page structure and internal links; the underlying vocabulary, translations, usage notes, lessons and story lines remain the reviewed course data.
