Learning to Sail. A fisherman teaches a visitor the basics of handling a small boat.

The dialogue, line by line

1. Bapak sudah lama berlayar?
   Have you been sailing long?
2. Sejak kecil. Ayah saya yang mengajar.
   Since I was small. My father taught me.
3. Saya boleh menaiki perahu ini?
   May I get on this boat?
4. Boleh, pelan-pelan. Pegang tali itu.
   Yes, slowly. Hold that rope.
5. Perahunya berisi apa saja?
   What is in the boat?
6. Jaring dan es untuk ikan.
   Nets and ice for the fish.
7. Bapak menangkap ikan besar juga?
   Do you catch big fish too?
8. Kadang. Tapi laut harus dihormati.
   Sometimes. But the sea must be respected.
9. Kalau angin kencang bagaimana?
   What if the wind is strong?
10. Perahu ini bisa bertahan, tapi kita tetap menepi atau pulang lebih cepat.
    This boat can handle it, but we still head to shore or return sooner.
11. Bagaimana Bapak mengukur waktu di laut?
    How do you judge the time at sea?
12. Lihat matahari. Sekarang sudah tengah hari.
    By looking at the sun. It is midday now.
13. Saya merasakan perahunya bergerak terus.
    I can feel the boat moving constantly.
14. Nanti terbiasa. Coba berbaring sebentar.
    You will get used to it. Try lying down for a moment.
15. Terima kasih sudah mengizinkan saya ikut.
    Thank you for allowing me to come along.
